Jose "Wicho" Luis Lopez

Jose Luis Lopez, 75, of Brownsville, TX entered into eternal rest at Valley Baptist Medical Center on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, with his family at his side.

Wicho, as he was affectionately known to all, was born in Mexico City, D.F. He had resided in Brownsville since he was 18. Wicho was a loyal and dedicated employee with Lamar Outdoor Advertising working for them for 30+ years as a sign painter. His handiwork could be seen all across the Rio Grande Valley in the billboards that he painted. His home on Ringgold was easily recognizable by the seasonal signs that he had painted in his front yard. Wicho loved his profession and it was seen in the work that he did.

Wicho was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, and friend to many. He loved life--meeting people, spending time with his family, helping others, and talking on the phone. Wicho was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Wicho was preceded in death by his wife, Georgina Alvarez Lopez; a sister-in-law, Carolina Alvarez; two sisters: Maria Antonietta and Margarita; and two brothers: Ruben and Ricardo.

Wicho is survived by his son, Jose Luis (Leticia) Lopez Jr.; two daughters: Georgina (Juan E. Quezada) Lopez and Erika Lopez; the grandchildren that were the apple of his eye: Ivan and Denisse Lopez; his aunt, Maria Luisa Quiroz; a sister, Maria Magdalena Perez Lopez; two brothers: Jose and Sergio Lopez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

In accordance with Wicho's wishes, he has been cremated. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Memorial Service celebrating his life scheduled for 7:00 p.m., on Friday, May 8, 2015, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The committal of his cremated remains will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Buena Vista Burial Park. We ask that everyone meet at the cemetery for the committal service.
