Jose De Jesus Valencia, 57, of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family after a brief but valiant battle against lung cancer.
Chuy as he was known to all, was born in Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. As a young man, he came to Matamoros and eventually immigrated to Brownsville in search of a better life. Chuy became a naturalized citizen in 2002.
Chuy always worked in the food and beverage industry. He started working at the Hilton and then moved to the Sheraton, both on South Padre Island. He then transferred to the Sheraton in Brownsville, now the Holiday Inn. Chuy together with his wife Blanca owned and operated his own restaurant Las Canastas for 8 years. Chuy was an exceptional cook and took great pride in the service he provided his customers.
In his spare time, Chuy, loved to watch soccer matches on TV and true to his native Jalisco, loved cheering on his favorite team Las Chivas. He also enjoyed watching the Mexican news channels and getting the latest news from his native Mexico. Chuy also loved spending time with his wife and family they especially loved watching movies together. Chuy was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Chuy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Antonio Valenica his father and motherinlaw and a sisterinlaw, Esther De Luna.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Blanca J. Valencia the three daughters that he was so proud of: Alelhie Michael Velarde Valencia, Eva Uribe, and Blanca N. Valencia the grandsons that were the light of his life: Aidan and Eli Uribe plus the grandchild that is on the way four brothers, two sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and a host of friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 9 p.m. today, Friday, March 2, 2012 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with a Remembrance Service scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening. The funeral service celebrating Chuys life will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser. All services will conclude after the service, and in accordance with Chuys wishes, cremation will follow.
