BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Josefa "Chepa" Tamez entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, the 31st of July 2024 in the comfort of her daughter's Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years of age.
Josefa was born on September 29, 1941 in Brownsville, Texas, daughter of the late Alfonso and Enriqueta Urbano. She attended local schools, graduating from Brownsville High School. A devout Catholic, Chepa was a faithful parishioner of Mary, Mother of the Church where she also served on the Altar and Rosary Committees and the Works of Mercy.
Preceding Chepa in death was her son, Omar C. Tamez; her parents, Alfonso and Enriqueta Urbano; and her siblings Juan Urbano, Alfonso Urbano, Jr., Luis Urbano, Miguel Urbano, Enrique Urbano, and Lourdes Urbano Contreras.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Oscar C. Tamez, Sr.; her children Oscar Tamez, Jr. (Myra), Griselda "Chris" Gonzalez (Javier), and Claudia Uribe (Joey); her grandchildren Oscar Tamez III, Aisha Tamez, Dominic Tamez, Javier Gonzalez, Jr. (Jessica), Byzeda Tamez, Andrew Uribe, and Hailey Uribe; her sister, Andrea Reyes; her brother, Ed Urbano; in addition to numerous extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 6th of August 2024 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 7th of August 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
