Josefina Olivia Gonzalez

Josefina Olivia Sierra De Leon Gonzalez, affectionately known as Vivi to her family and Josie to her friends, peacefully went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She passed away at home accompanied by her oldest daughter Juanita (Janie) and remaining son David by her side. She enjoyed a vivacious 91 years of life and is now with our creator and other family and friends who have preceded her in death.

Josefina was born in Brownsville, Texas to her parents Rosa Sierra De Leon and Gaspar De Leon. She married Arturo Gonzalez Gonzalez and had 5 children: Juanita Rosa (Janie) Gonzalez, Arturo Gonzalez Jr, Gaspar Gonzalez (both deceased), Georgina (Gina) Gloria Gallagher and David Matias Gonzalez. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael David and Samantha Ann Gonzalez and daughter-in-law, Victoria (Vicky) Marquez. As the eldest of 15 she is survived by siblings: Maria Elena De Leon, Maria Guadalupe Caballero, Maria Lourdes Medina, Humberto De Leon, Jose Angel De Leon, Evangelina Alcala and Lorenzo De Leon.

Josefina was passionately devoted to her church, family and friends. She was also an incredibly talented and gifted self-taught artist and craftaholic who expressed and shared her love of life through her enjoyment of  music, dancing and possessed a wicked sense of humor.

During her career she worked at Maura Smith Head Start Center, Sears & Roebuck and finished her career working as a teacher aid for BISD as well as consistently working side part time jobs to solely raise her surviving four children.

Mom/Josie/Vivi, you will be remembered for your dedication to your family, your beautiful smile, your compassion and care for others and your amazing sense of humor.

Mom: Janie, Gina, David, Michael, Samantha and Vicky love you eternally and appreciate your dedication and selfless love for us, may you rest in eternal peace.
