Juan Enrique Gavito, 86, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 29, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A lifetime resident of Brownsville, Juan Enrique was a member of a pioneer Brownsville family. He returned to Brownsville, after graduating from St. Marys Law School in San Antonio, where he obtained his law degree. Juan Enrique had an illustrious career that included service with the FBI, a private law practice, Cameron County Assistant District Attorney, Justice of the Peace, and ultimately serving as the head of the Federal Public Defenders Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Juan Enrique is preceded in death by his parents, Consuelo Tijerina and Valentin Gavito a son, Valentin Adan V.A. Gavito two sisters, Celia G. Cruse and Graciela Gavito and two brothers, Valentin Gavito and Carlos Gavito.
Juan Enrique is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emma C. Gavito his children: Emma Gavito Richard Shinsky, Juan Enrique Judith Gavito Jr., Sammy Irma Gavito, Gracie Hugh Touchy, and Connie Gavito eight grandchildren: David Shinsky Autumn Looney, Marissa Shinsky, Bryant and Michael Touchy, Samuel and Briana Gavito, and Uriel and Efrain Gavito a greatgrandson, Peyton Shinsky and three sisters: Consuelo G. Booth, Maya G. White, and Lydia G. Brackney along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30th and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31st at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Juan Enriques sonsinlaw, Richard Shinsky and Hugh Touchy, along with his grandsons: Bryant Touchy, David Shinsky, Michael Touchy and Samuel Gavito are honored to be serving as his pallbearers.
Felix Recio, Carlos Gonzalez, Roland Dahlin II, Jeff Wilde, Margie Meyers, and the Staff of the Federal Public Defenders Office will serve as honorary pallbearers.
