Juan P. Garcia Top Sarge beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, September 13, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family, and his caring provider, Dora Garcia.

J.P. was the first born son of Rosalio and Carmen P. Garcia. He attended St. Josephs Academy Middle School and graduated from Brownsville High School in 1957. J.P. attended Pan American University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1982.

J.P. was a salesman at Pearl Brothers and Department Manager at GulfMart. He served his community as a police officer with the Brownsville Police Department for 9 years. He served as an Adult Probation Officer with Cameron County for 20 years. He enlisted at age 17 in the U.S. Army National Guard, he trained at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas and Ft. Polk, Louisiana during his service. He was promoted to 1st Sgt. in 1986, retired from the U.S. Army National Guard after serving 32 years.

J.P. was an avid Dallas Cowboys and University of Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all those fortunate to have known him.

Juan P. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalio and Carmen P. Garcia.

Left behind to treasure their memories of J.P. is his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Alma Gloria Garcia, his 5 children Maggie Hector Garcia, Johnny Edna Garcia, Jr., Monica M.Hector Guzman of Friendswood, Texas, Rosalio Rodrigo RodGriselda Garcia, and Alma G.Victor Lopez of San Antonio, Texas, his grandchildren USMC Sgt. Joel J. Martinez of San Antonio, Texas, Veronica Lee Garcia of Brownsville, Texas, Erica Marie Parnell of San Diego, California, Vanessa Gloria Garcia, Amanda Nicole Miles, Anissa Renee Garcia, Olivia Renee Garcia from Brownsville, Texas, Hector David Guzman and Michael Anthony Guzman of Friendswood, Texas, Dominique Gloria Lopez, Gabriel Luis Lopez, and Kameron Victor Lopez of San Antonio, Texas, Rodrigo Xantiago Garcia and Maya Itzel Garcia from Brownsville, Texas, 3 greatgrandchildren: Cameron Edward and Rylan Noah Parnell of San Diego, California and Madyson Haylee Harris of Brownsville, Texas, his brothers and sisters: Rose George Chavez of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Rick Kathy Garcia of Sedona, Arizona, Martin Janice Garcia of Bakersfield, California, Amelia Mike Zsori of Waukesha, Wisconsin, his brothers inlaw Gilbert Marie DeLeon of Brownsville and Jesse Chuy DeLeon of Lomita, California, and his beloved niece Cynthia D. Arthur Luis from Houston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 PM in the East Chapel of DarlingMouser Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be on Wednesday at 1 PM at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church, 1055 Military Highway, Brownsville Texas with interment immediately following at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the gravesite by the American Legion Post 43 Honor Guard under the direction of Raul Leal.

Honored to be serving as J.P.s pallbearers are his sons, sonsinlaw, and first grandchild: Johnny, Rodrigo, Hector Garcia, Hector Guzman, Victor Lopez, and Joel J. Martinez, respectively. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons: Hector David and Michael Anthony Guzman, Gabriel and Kameron Lopez, and Rigo Garcia.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Texas Oncology and also the nursing staff of Safe Haven Hospice of Brownsville.
