Juan Quintanilla, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, January 31, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at Methodist Sugarland Hospital in Sugarland, Texas after a brief illness.
Mr. Quintanilla had been a resident of Brownsville for more than 55 years. He worked for 20 years and retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1968. After his retirement he became an independent contractor in Brownsville, where he built many beautiful homes. After retiring for the 2nd time from his construction business, he spent his days at his ranch in Mexico. He and his wife Ofelia were founding members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mr. Quintanilla will be dearly missed by everyone fortunate to have known him.
Mr. Quintanilla was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Guadalupe Quintanilla and two sisters, Mercedes Gutierrez and Noemi Torres.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his wife of 59 years, , Ofelia S. Quintanilla his children: Bertha QuintanillaGarza and her husband Gonzalo, Juan A. Quintanilla and his wife Vicky, Alma QuintanillaVillarreal and her husband Homer, Hector Quintanilla and his wife Tessie, and Julio C. Quintanilla and his wife Lucy 14 grandchildren: Gonzalo Stephanie Garza Jr., Melissa A. Raymond Vasquez, Mark C. Villarreal, John V. Quintanilla, Lorena Y. Garza, Valeria K. Villarreal, Michael C. Villarreal, Andres E. Quintanilla, Jennifer A. Quintanilla, Daniel R. Quintanilla, Cesar J. Garza, Julio C. Quintanilla Jr., Alyssa C. Quintanilla, and Sarah M. Quintanilla and 3 greatgrandchildren: Aidan J. Garza, Sabrina I. Vasquez, and Isabela G. Garza.
He will also be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters: Carlos Delfina Quintanilla, Eva Arturo Ramirez, Elida Salvador Gutierrez, Maria Luisa Singlaterri, Nieves Carmina Quintanilla, and Elvia Victor Flores and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
We will begin celebrating his life at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2645 Tulipan St. All services will conclude at the church and in accordance with Mr. Quintanillas wishes cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mr. Quintanillas name may be made to the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts BMFA for the Arts Education, 660 E. Ringgold St., Brownsville, TX 78520 so that under privileged children in our community may have the opportunity to take classes at the Museum.
