Katherine Anderson Celaya-Reed passed away peacefully at her home on December 10, 2018. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on July 13, 1926, to Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Anderson. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and by her four sisters, Margaret Dancy, Bettie Jackson, Mary Bruce, Virginia Wiech and two brothers, Peter Anderson and Andrew Anderson.
Katherine attended elementary and high school in Brownsville. In 1947, she received a B.A. in English, with a minor in Music from the University of North Texas and completed graduate work in Library Science at the University of Texas, Austin. Katherine worked as an English teacher and finished her career as a librarian in Brownsville schools, retiring in 1981.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Thomas William Celaya. She is survived by their three children William Tate Celaya (Vivian), Mary Katherine Celaya and Joseph Andrew Celaya.
Katherine subsequently married William W. (Bill) Reed in 1987. They were married for 29 years until Bill's death in 2016. Katherine is also survived by Bill Reed's children Teresa Hoskins (Mark), Wesley Reed (Karol), David Reed (Patti), Rose Ann Nuckols (David), John Reed (Christine) and Eric Reed (Noelle). In addition, Katherine is survived by all of her beloved grandchildren: William Buck, Adrian Celaya, Andrew Celaya, AnaPatricia Celaya, Chad, Trevor and Eric Nuckols, Mathew Reed, Helen Reed, Olivia Reed-Murphy, Jane, Mark and Mike Hoskins, Jon Reed, Kaitlin Reed-Rogers, Finley, Jack, and Cayden Reed; and by her beloved great-grandchildren Clay Hunter and Casey Hannah Hoskins.
Katherine's family will be forever grateful to caregivers Olga Ramirez, Irma Castillo, Rosa Mungia, Magdalena Garcia, and Juana Maria Chapa for the loving care given to both her and Bill Reed.
A special thanks to Katherine's dear friend of many years, Lenora Rentfro, for all her devotion to and time spent with Katherine.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Advent, Episcopal in Brownsville on Wednesday, December 19, at 11:30 am.
