Lawrence "Larry" Herrera, 94, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas on January 28, 2016. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 6, 1921. His family moved to Brownsville when he was twelve years old. He was a graduate of Brownsville High School, Class of 1939. After graduating from high school he joined the Marine Corps, serving 2 years with the Third Marine Division in the Pacific Theater Division. Upon his return from Pearl Harbor he attended Officers candidate school at the University of North Carolina. He continued his education at Texas A & M University. He worked for Anderson Clayton Cotton Co. in Mexico, Pace Fish Company, and the Brownsville Independent School District.

His parents Henry and Theresa Herrera, and sister Henrietta Boster precede him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Billie; two children, Teresa (Randy) Myers of San Antonio, and John W. (Pilar) Herrera of Brownsville, five grandchildren, Jason (Tracy) Myers of Dallas, Nicole (Marshall) Preas of La Vernia, Texas, Pamela Myers of Houston, John Lawrence Herrera of Odessa, Texas, Laura Pilar Herrera of San Antonio and great grand daughter Hattie Lane Myers of Dallas.

Larry was a very devoted member of First United Methodist Church. Many will remember his love for life and dedication to family and friends. He was very proud of his military service for his country and the long wonderful life he had been blessed with, often asking people to guess his age.

A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd. in Brownsville on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church.

Honorary Pallbearers are Lee Winans, Don Breeden, Randy Myers, John W. Herrera, Pat Pace Jr., Raul A. Besteiro III, Jason Myers, and John Lawrence Herrera.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staffs at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Texas Heart Institute and South Texas Rehabilitation Center in Brownsville for all their care and support.
