BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Leonardo V. Garcia, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 05, 2020 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 69.
Leonardo Garcia was born in Brownsville, Texas on August 15, 1950. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and his Master’s in Education from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas. Throughout his career, Leonardo was a teacher, coordinator, math specialist and dean of instruction within his 40 years with the Brownsville Independent School District, where he later retired as an Administrator. He was career-oriented, sociable, and spoke with articulation and eloquence. In his spare time he enjoyed working on cars, hunting and fishing, and traveling out to the beach. He was also a great cook, barbequing outdoors and according to his son... the BEST cooked fajitas! He will be missed greatly by his family and friends, and all of those fortunate to have known him. "Just like how I was the apple of your eye, you were the balm to my soul. I miss you, dad."
Leonardo was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Arguelles Garcia and Felipa Vidrio Garcia; and by his brothers, Oscar Garcia, Jr. and Arnoldo Garcia.
Left to treasure his loving memory are his children, Veronica Garcia (Raul Moran) and Leonardo Garcia; grandchildren Elisa Iliana Garcia-Moran, Vanessa Garcia-Moran, Brianna Garcia-Moran, and Lucian Garcia; and sisters Chacha Wilson, Martha (Ruben) Kopara, and Sylvia (John) Patriarca.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 5th of April 2021 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral at 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, Texas 78520. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas 78526.
