Lucino "El Guero" Rosenbaum, Sr.

Lucino Rosenbaum Sr., 91, beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville with his family at his side.

A native of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Lucino had been a resident of Brownsville for almost 50 years. He was very successful in agriculture, ranching, and managing his own bus transportation company in Mexico. He married Antonia Perez in 1939 and they moved to Brownsville in 1960. They were migrant workers and in the 1970s established a restaurant that would later become the home of Rosenbaum Flowers.

While serving with the City of Brownsville, he was the caretaker at Gonzalez Park in the Southmost area. He spent a lot of time with the kids who would frequent the park. He loved giving them advice and was well respected for that. Lucino was affectionately called El Guero. Because of the 21 years of love and devotion to the park, which is within walking distance of his home, one section of the park will soon be named in his honor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Angela; his beloved wife, Antonia; his daughter, Viola; a son, Juan Jose; and his brothers and sisters: Severino, Ysidro, Prescilliana, Jose, Bulfrano, Eneneciano, and Elvira.

Left behind to eternally treasure his memory are his daughter, Yolanda Rosenbaum David; his 4 sons: Heriberto Leticia Rosenbaum Sr., Armando Ramona Rosenbaum Sr., Lucino Beatrice Rosenbaum Jr., all from Brownsville, and Ren Mary Beth Rosenbaum from St. John, MI; his daughter-in-law, Martha Rosenbaum, from Brownsville; his brother, Sotero Rosenbaum; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and his beloved caretaker Teresa Martinez.

Visitation will begin at 1p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Gueritos grandsons: Lucino Rosenbaum III, Heriberto Rosenbaum Jr., Juan Jose Rosenbaum Jr., Armando Rosenbaum Jr., Adrian Rosenbaum, Emmanuel Rosenbaum, Adam Ren Rosenbaum, and Alex Antonio Rosenbaum are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their grandfather. Honorary pallbearers will be: Yolanda Rosenbaum, Heriberto Rosenbaum Sr., Lucino Rosenbaum Jr., Ren Rosenbaum, David Gonzalez, and Sotero Rosenbaum.
