Lucretia "Lou" Cargile Moser

Lucretia Lou Cargile Moser, born June 15, 1925 in Dallas County Mesquite, Texas, passed from her earthly body into eternal life with the Lord God on June 22, 2010, in Houston. Lucretia was predeceased by her parents, F. L. Cargile, Sr. and Ola Mae Cox Cargile, members of two large EastCentral Texas pioneer families her husband of 58 years, A. J. Jack Moser and her brothers F. L. Cargile, Jr., and Pierce L. Cargile. Her sistersinlaw Mary Jo Danforth Cargile and Mary Moser Hellums also preceded her in death.
Lou graduated from Mexia High School in 1943, and Texas State College for Women now Texas Womans University in 1947. She had come to Brownsville, Texas in 1946 to teach English at Brownsville Junior High School, and returned upon her graduation in 1947 to continue her career with Brownsville CISD at the junior high. At this time Lou was introduced to A. J. Jack Moser, whom she wed in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 14, 1948. Lou and Jack gratefully enjoyed a blessed and joyful 58year marriage in which they worked hard to rear their two children, serve their church and community, and eventually fish from Jacks boat or sit on the beach and feed the sea gulls together.
Lou is survived by her daughter Lou Ann Kelly of Houston and her son Ronald Dean Moser of Brownsville, their spouses Mike Kelly and Vicki Johnston Moser, and grandchildren Kyle Kelly, Jennifer Moser, and Andrew Moser. Other living family members are sisterinlaw Jeanne Meredith of Athens, Texas, niece Sue Cargile Moore of Crosbyton, Texas, and Jacks nephews and nieces of the Ellis and Hellums families.
Mrs. Moser thoroughly enjoyed a rewarding 31year teaching career spanning all secondary grade levels. She guided many Brownsville youth to develop their language skills and the resulting confidence to be successful communicators for life. After serving at Brownsville Junior High and Cummings Junior High for 18 years, Mrs. Moser moved to high school, teaching for 11 years at Brownsville HighHomer Hanna High, then teaching her last 2 years before retirement at James Pace High School. Her main assignment in high school was 11thgrade English, which was her cherished opportunity to impart her love of American literature and help her students recognize the ideals and historical perspectives of the Eighteenth and Nineteenthcentury writers. Mrs. Moser enjoyed serving as lead class sponsor for both the BHS classes of 1971 and 1973, Lou Anns and Deans classes respectively. Throughout her career she regularly coached the Ready Writing and Spelling events for UIL competition. Considered a thorough, patient, and humorous motivator by all her students, Mrs. Moser was able to inspire her readywriters and spellers to rise to their potential. She truly considered every setting, whether in the classroom or in the competitive arena of UIL, a personal challenge to plant seeds of growth in the life of each student.
In her retirement Lou busied herself volunteering with clubs, judging essays for local student contests, and widening her scope of dear friends. She was a member of Pan American Round Table I, the PEO Sisterhood, Wednesday Study Club, and the OuttoLunch Bunch. She was especially privileged to have served on the Brownsville Public Library Board and the Library Foundation during several years of growth and transition. Lous attentive, compassionate listening and her ability to help others recognize and address common goals were character traits she exhibited in both her teaching and community service endeavors.
Throughout her life, Lous guiding light was her faith in and love of God and His Son Jesus Christ. She was a devoted, active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville for 60 years. Her prayer for her friends is that they daily live graciously and joyfully for God, receiving both His blessings and trials with a faithful heart.
A memorial service to the everlasting glory of God will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville, with the Reverends Priscilla Abbott and Lynne Myers, Interim Pastor, officiating.
