Lydia Lillie Baker Gutierrez, 96 of Brownsville, passed away at her residence on Monday, September 21, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Manuel S. Gutierrez; her parents, Charles and Josefa Lugo Baker; her brothers Charles L. Baker and Valentin Baker; by her sisters, Josefa Josie Bowman and Ofelia Tiny Pia and by a grandson, Manuel Gutierrez, III.

Left to eternally cherish Lydias memory are her sons, Manuel V. Rosy Gutierrez and James Esther Gutierrez; her daughters, Lydia George Bailey, Terry Ric Slater and Cecilia G. Garza; her grandchildren, George W. Pamela Bailey, Lydia Bruce Brackrog, Gregory Bailey, Cheryl Steve McKeon, Michael Gutierrez, Graciela E. Gutierrez, Albert Norma Garza, Lisa Jo Ron Coronado, Joe Albert Maribe Garza and Laura George Tamez; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Aurora Gole Cruhm, Esperia Pime Montemayor and Bertha Bea Alvarez.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.Friday, September 25, 2009 with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson St, with interment to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Honored to be serving as pallbearers are her grandsons and nephews Albert A. Garza, Joe A. Garza, Jr., George W. Bailey, Ron Coronado, Daniel Cruhm and George Tamez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Gutierrez, George Bailey, Ric Slater, Victor Montemayor and James Alvarez.

Lydias family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Odyssey Health Care of South Texas, Dr. Henry Imperial and staff of New Horizon Clinic, Father Michael Amesse and Father Paquale Lanese and the Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral for their prayers.

Memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Health Care of South Texas, 2501 Paredes Line Rd., Suite B9, Brownsville, Texas 78526 in Lydias memory.
