Lydia C. Tamayo, 91, of Brownsville, our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, and aunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home in Brownsville.
Mrs. Tamayo was born in Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico but came to Brownsville at a very young age. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1940. As a young girl, she played First Base for the Brownsville Womens City League and thus began a lifelong love and passion for baseball. Lydia loved watching and cheering on her favorite team the Houston Astros.
She was a faithful Catholic and devoted parishioner for many years at St. Marys. Lydia was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Bishop Adolph Marx 1988. Lydia was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Mrs. Tamayo was preceded in death by her husband, Amado Tamayo a daughter, Corina Tamayo her parents, Juan T. and Genoveva Carrejo her sisters: Oralia Rivera, Refugio Melendez, Lourdes Salazar, Nereida Cavazos, and Yolanda Carrejo a grandson, Michael Dorsett and a greatgrandson, Noe Carrasco.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her loving daughters: Lydia T. Olivares and her husband Joe and Elva Martinez and her husband Benny five grandchildren: Deborah Rudy Bernal, Rosemary Dorsett, Charles Dr. Dan Stobie Dorsett, Corie Carlos Rendon, and Steve Dr. Stephen Kramer Olivares eleven greatgrandchildren four greatgreatgrandchildren a sister, Graciela Carrejo and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. today, Sunday, May 20, 2012 and continue through 9:00 p.m. in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. this evening. We ask that everyone meet at St. Marys, 1914 Barnard Rd. for the Funeral Mass which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012. All services will conclude after the Mass, and in accordance with Mrs. Tamayos wishes cremation will follow.
Charles Dorsett, Steven Olivares, Dr. Stephen P. Kramer, Francisco Kiko Rendon, Diego RendonPolin, and Juan Pablo Gomez are honored to be serving as Mrs. Tamayos pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mrs. Tamayos name may be made to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Bishop Adolph Marx 1988, co Anita Gomez, Financial Secretary, 1345 Lantana, Brownsville, TX 78520.
Mrs. Tamayos family would like to express their most heartfelt and sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Spanish Meadow Nursing Home for the compassionate care tendered to Mrs. Tamayo and the family. May God continue to bless you as you minister to others.
