Manuel Leal Jr., 89, our beloved father, brother, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and uncle entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 16, 2013, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Manuel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded and captured during the Battle of the Bulge. Manuel was awarded the Purple Heart and Prisoner of War medals. Manuel was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2035. Manuel was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife, Elodia F. Leal his son, Sammy D. Leal, his parents, Manuel Sr. and Paula Leal five sisters and three brothers.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his son, Martinel Marty Leal Sr. a sister, Fran Krenzler six grandsons six greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Martinel Leal Sr., Martinel Leal Jr., Manuel Leal III, Joe Garza, Juan Garza, and Chuy Garza are honored to be serving as Mr. Leals pallbearers. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2035 Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors at the graveside.
