Manuel M. Meme Mireles, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 25, 2009. He was born to Francisco and Galdina Mireles in Mason City, Iowa, September 25, 1938.
Meme began his band directing career in Alice, TX under the leadership of Bryce Taylor. He then spent ten years building the band program in Port Isabel, TX. He and his band were rewarded by being selected the AA Honor Band in the State of Texas in 1977. He later taught at Richardson, TX and retired from teaching with Brownsville I.S.D. His fellow directors valued his mentoring and often called upon his expertise to clinic their bands over the years.
Some of Memes hobbies included running marathons, fishing, golfing, and working in his various real-estate dealings.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank C. Mireles. He is survived by his mother, Galdina Mireles of Brownsville, his two daughters, Terri Tim Eagle of Virginia, and Cristina Ronnie DeLeon of Los Fresnos, four grandchildren, Krysta and James Eagle and Brandyn and Lauryn DeLeon. Also surviving are two sisters, Leonarda Mireles of Brownsville and Virginia Efren Vega of San Antonio, two brothers, Frank Aida Mireles and Tony Dora Mireles both of Houston, the mother of his daughters, Lois Lindemann of Los Fresnos, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2p.m., and continue until 9p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7p.m., in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30a.m., Thursday, October 29, at St. Marys Catholic Church with burial to Buena Vista Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be Frank Mireles, Jr., Tony Mireles, Tim Eagle, Ronnie DeLeon, Johnny Munoz, and Rolando Zapata. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce Taylor, Art Guajardo, Robert Vezzeti, Paul Flinchbaugh, Mick Kuntz, Jim Dorian, Richard Ruiz, Eddie Zamora and Gilbert Colunga.
