Manuel Perelman

Manuel Perelman passed away on October 9, 2015. Manuel Perelman was born in Mexico City to Chaim and Sarah Perelman on August 13, 1928. He grew up in a very modest home where he learned to value and appreciate the little things in life. He worked hard and finished his degree in Civil Engineering from UNAM in Mexico City. He worked on many railroad projects throughout Mexico and then turned his talents to designing and building high rise buildings in Mexico City. A credit to his talents is the fact that the buildings he built survived major earthquakes. His work was meticulous.
In 1957, Manuel met the love of his life, Rachel Greenspan. He was so taken by her that he asked her and her boyfriend out. The boyfriend refused but Rachel went out with him, 30-days later, they were engaged and they celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary this last January. In 1962, they moved to Brownsville where Manuel worked as a draftsman, then builder and finally as a real estate broker and developer. Together with Rachel, Manuel established Rachel Perelman Realty and Manuel Perelman Designer and Builder. He built magnificent custom homes and his dream was to see the north end of Brownsville develop. He finally realized his dream by selling the land for the redevelopment of Sunrise Mall, putting in Pablo Kisel Blvd, which he named for his life-long friend Pablo. Manuel also designed and built the first totally barrier-free bowling alley-Galaxy Bowl. Manuel also was instrumental in the sale of and/or development of numerous other venues in Brownsville.
Manuel was a kind, self-less and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend who would (and did) give the shirt off his back to help family or friends. He never judged and gave unconditional love always. He had a great love for singing opera, art, politics, gardening and caring for the stray cats who ended up at our home.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents Chaim and Sarah Perelman and parents in law, Nathan and Toibe Greenspan. He is survived by his wife Rachel and his brother Jorge (Rosita) Perelman of Tel Aviv Israel, his sister Diana (Samuel) Fainsod of Ramat Aviv Israel, his three children Jacob Perelman of Brownsville, Janie (Toby) Richker of Irving and Aida (Carl) Jerome of Houston. He is also survived by his grand children, Ariel Jerome, and Joshua-his constant companion, Charlie and Alyssa Perelman, and Hannah MacDonald.
The funeral will take place at the Brownsville Hebrew Cemetery on Sunday October 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m
