Margarita Escobedo

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Margarita Escobedo entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 16th of November 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence. She was eighty-eight years of age.

Margarita was born on June 28, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas, daughter of the late Enrique and Victoria Maza Escobedo. She graduated from college in San Marcos, Texas and went into teaching with the Brownsville Independent School District, retiring from Russell Elementary. After retirement, she continued substituting with the school district. Margarita dedicated her time to her family, her numerous students over the years, and her community. A devout Catholic, she was an avid parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her daughter, Maritiza, and her grandchildren were her prides and joys.

Preceding Margarita in death were her parents, Enrique and Victoria M. Escobedo, and her brother, Jorge Escobedo.

Survivors include her daughter, Maritza V. Escobedo (Adam Saldana); her grandchildren, Marissa Martinez and Marcos Martinez; her brother, Jose H. Escobedo (Ida); and her beloved Poodle, Chico.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 26th of November 2023 between the hours of four o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Sunday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at twelve noon on Monday, the 27th of November 2023 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
