Maria Cabrera Cantú, 96, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 11th, 2016, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was a longtime resident of Brownsville. Maria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. A devout Catholic, Maria was a longtime parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church and a founding member of Comunidad AMA. Maria was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known her.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Gustavo M. Cantú a grandson, David Muñoz Jr.; two sisters: Frances Cabrera and Aurora Flores; and a brother, Seferino Cabrera.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Gustavo N. Cantú, Alda M. (David Sr.) Muñoz, Elsa L. Cantú, and Sandra I. (Ronnie) Rodriguez; a foster daughter, Irma L. Garcia; nine grandchildren: Richard P. Cantú, Laura K. (Natasha M. Crawford) Muñoz, Audra L. (Martin) Luis, Denise N. Rodriguez, Michael A. (Christie) Cantú, Marc W. (Christine) Muñoz, Rebecca R. Rodriguez, Tomas Garza, and Sarah R. Rodriguez; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm and continue through 9:00 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 14th, 2016, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 pm Wednesday evening at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, Sept. 15th, 2016, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2255 Southmost Road. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Ronnie Rodriguez, Richard Cantú, Michael Cantú, Marc Muñoz, William Luis, and Martin Luis are honored to be serving as Maria's pallbearers. The rest of Maria's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
