Maria de la Luz Ramirez Cisneros, formerly of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest in Boerne, Texas on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the age of 91. Born November 1921, to parents Victor and Maria Justa Ramirez, Maria grew up in Brownsville, Texas.
As a young girl, she attended The Immaculate Conception Catholic School. In her youth, she enjoyed participating in school plays and posadas. She would later go on to attend Villa Maria High School, and never missed a chance to perform her acappella rendition of Ave Maria with The Immaculate Conception Church choir.
In 1943, she married Alfredo Cisneros. Together with Alfredo, they owned and operated a small local business and raised six children, in whom she never failed to instill the importance of education and hard work. Maria and her children could often be found visiting downtown Brownsville, attending movies, or spending time together at their beloved beach on South Padre Island. Maria very much enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, as well as sewing for herself and her daughters. She also loved going to concerts, travelling, and attending Spurs games. As an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, she was always a source for lively commentary regarding the action on the gridiron.
Later in life, Maria and Alfredo moved to San Antonio to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Always the doting grandmother, she was well known for her oatmeal cookies, sneaking chocolates, giving Mentholatum foot rubs, and teaching how to accept a compliment. A loving wife and mother, Maria was also a woman of deep faith and always quick to offer a prayer for anyone in need.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Maria, her brothers Victor, Salvador, Plutarco, and Felix, and by her husband of 63 years, Alfredo Cisneros.
