Maria del Refugio Mary Cornejo, 88, our beloved sister and aunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, July 09, 2010 at Solara Hospital in Brownsville surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. A devout Catholic, Mary was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception. She was a dedicated and loyal employee for 35 years at Woolworth in both Brownsville and Corpus Christi. She was a member of the American Legion Funeral Honor Guard Auxiliary, the Pace Band Boosters, and Amigos del Valle. Mary enjoyed traveling whenever possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Idilfonso and Guadalupe Cornejo her brother, Feliciano Cornejo and two sisters, Manuela Cornejo Latigo and Elida Cornejo Hernandez.
Left behind to eternally treasure the memories they have of her are her sister, Maria Cornejo Salazar the nephew that she considered a grandson, Alfonso Luis Trevio her nieces and nephews: Dalinda Latigo Miguel DePau, Debbie Latigo Paul Haire, Diana Latigo Alex Espinosa, Betsy Latigo Daniel Longoria, Thelma Latigo Jose Luis Rodriguez, Leticia Latigo Joe Granado, Martha Salazar Randy Fay, Belinda Rick Malone, and Roberto Cornejo Lugo.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 9 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. A Liturgical Service of Christian Resurrection is tscheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Raul Granado, Ruben Longoria, Victor Longoria, Roberto Lugo, Manuel Martinez, and Nelson Rodriguez are honored to be serving as Marys pallbearers. State Senator Eddie Lucio, Cameron County Clerk Joe G. Rivera, Alfonso Luis Trevio, Heiko Osmers, and Wilhelm Osmers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
