María Teresa "Chiqui" De Saro de Garza

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – María Teresa De Saro de Garza entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 6th of April 2024 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her family.

Chiqui was born in Mexico City on November 20, 1934, the sixth and last child of Tomás De Saro and Manolita Revuelta. She spent her childhood years between Mexico City and Matamoros. 

On September 4, 1952, she married the love of her life Oscar J. Garza, in Matamoros. They have five children who survive them: Father Amador Garza, Oscar J. Garza II, Luis Eduardo Garza (Cristina), María Eugenia Lillis (Mike), and Adriana Read (Tom). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Oscar J. Garza III (Dru), Manolo Garza (Kaitlyn), Alec Garza (Angela), María Carolina Lillis, Sophia Isabel Yaeger (Thomas), Teresa Alexandra Lillis, Christina Adele Read, and William Thomas Read (Chase); nine great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. 

A Vigil with a recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 16th of April 2024 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville.

The Mass of Resurrection will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 17th of April 2024 at Saint Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville.

There will be a second Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 19th of April 2024, where her urn will be placed next to her Colorado. 

The family is most grateful to her longtime caregiver, an angel, Ceci Cruz; and to the incredibly kind and professional staff from Amedisys Hospice. 

In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, please make memorial donations in memory of Chiqui to Guadalupe Regional Middle School or to the Saint Joseph Academy’s Montagne Scholars Program.
