BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Maria Feliz Becerra, our beautiful mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at half past eight o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 8th of January 2025. She was 88 years of age.
Mother is survived by her daughter, Maria Teresa "Terry" Becerra of Brownsville, Texas; three grandchildren John, Issac, and Terry Nicole; five great-grandchildren of San Antonio, Texas; and by her son, Louis Becerra Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Angel and Samantha; and two great-grandchildren of San Antonio, Texas.
Mother was married to Louis Becerra Sr. for over 45 years, bless her soul. Dad passed away many moons ago. At times, Mother would wait up for Dad to come home and she would get upset because he never did.
Mother had one brother, Guadalupe Coronado (Uncle Joe), who passed away about two months ago due to cancer. She has three nephews and two nieces, Rosalind, R.J., Rene, Elizabeth, and Kenneth.
Mom loved the holidays. I remember our silver Christmas tree and as we grew older, we would sit around the table helping mom make tamales. This was one of my best memories, so of course I now carry that tradition. She was the best cupcake maker and I couldn’t wait for my birthdays at school so she could bring my class her delicious cupcakes. When startled, she had the highest pitch scream, one that that belongs in horror movies.
Mom loved all her grandchildren very much and missed them when they were at home. She always enjoyed having her grandkids over and loved them all on a different level and ensured she had her cakes or cupcakes ready for them. She did everything grandkids asked for no matter what.
Mom passed away after battling Alzheimer's for a long four years, suffering fall after fall. This past year was hard watching the fear she had in her eyes every time she needed to be bathed or changed, trying to pinch and bite, trying to protect herself. The things I read about this disease did not prepare me for what was to come. Everyday this disease chipped away at her little by little. Removing what was once our mother, our grandmother. She could no longer remember anybody or anything. The Alzheimer's stripped away the one thing she enjoyed which was sewing quilts and blankets for everyone; she could no longer understand what to press and turn. Momma had mad skills when it came to sewing. Momma would sew my cheerleading, twirler, and charro days outfits.
Momma you will always live through me and our names Coronado Becerra will continue to live on for generation after generation.
Love Always, Terry Becerra and Louis Becerra.
