Maria Guadalupe Garcia-Silva

Maria Guadalupe Garcia-Silva, 99, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. She was born on February 19, 1909, in Santa Maria, Texas to Juan Garcia Coronado and Carlota Galvan.

Guadalupe was loved by all who knew her. She had a vivid memory of her whole life. She could sit and tell stories of when she was a young girl and how she taught herself to read and write. She became a self-taught seamstress at the age of 9.

She was a devout member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Having a deep faith, she prayed the rosary daily, since she was 8 years old.

Mrs. Silva was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Manuel Garcia; her husband, Pedro Silva, Sr.; and a daughter, Natalia Silva Flores. She is survived by a son, Pedro Ana Silva, Jr.of Brownsville, four daughters, Maria de Jesus Anthony Smith of Good Thunder, Minnesota; Ninfa Jorge Lopez; Rosario Juan Gutierrez, and Guadalupe Abelardo Rivera, all of Brownsville; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren

Visitation will be today, Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. The Mass of Resurrection will be held on at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at St. Marys Catholic Church with entombment to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Honored to be her pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Joey Lopez, Eric and Marc Gutierrez, Leonel and Michael Pena, Mario Montalvo, Elliott and George Barr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
