Maria de la Luz Guzman, 92, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017.
Lucita, as she was affectionately known to all, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. Lucita was the only daughter of Ernest Guzman Sr. and Aurora Samano Guzman. Lucita worked as a bookkeeper for the Brownsville Independent School District and enjoyed extensive travel to various parts of the United States and world. Lucita was a gentle, kind, loving person who was dearly loved and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Lucita is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Ernest Guzman Jr. and Manuel Guzman.
Lucita is survived by her loving nephews and nieces: Ernest (Melissa) Guzman III, Victor Eli (Norma Reyes) Guzman, Dora Guzman, Aurora Guzman, and Manuel Guzman; a sister-in-law, Dora Treviño; her great- nieces & nephews: Matthew & Sarah Guzman, Victor Manuel & Jorge Eli Guzman, Tatiana Vallejo, Lissette Guzman Duarte, Jovani Gallegos, and Julian Guzman. Lucita will also be missed by her close friends, Rosalie Gutierrez and Carmen Lerma, several cousins and extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17th at Darling Mouser Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18th, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street. Committal services will follow Buena Vista Burial Park.
The family would like to give special thanks to her close friend and caretaker, Rosalie Gutierrez for her dedicated attention, help and love.
