Mrs. Maria de la Luz Hernandez, 77, our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, motherinlaw, aunt, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Hernandez who was a native of Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico came to the United States as a young girl in search of a better life. At 17, she married Jose E. Hernandez and together they had 11 children. In her spare time, Mrs. Hernandez enjoyed gardening, playing Chalupa, and watching her novelas but what she enjoyed most of all was spending time with her family barbequeuing and just enjoying each others company. She was a devoted wife and mother and her family was her life. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Eduvijes Hernandez Sr., a son, Jose Eduvijes Hernandez Jr., a daughter, Yolanda Hernandez, her parents, and a brother, Jesus Ybarra.
Left behind to cherish their memories of her are her children: Dolores Albert Rubio, Blanca Leonel Ortiz, Linda Rosa Manuel Benavides, Enrique Hernandez, Jesus Irma Hernandez, Norma Alicia Hernandez and her son Derik, Joel Diana Hernandez, Melquiades and Roberto Hernandez fourteen grandchildren, twelve greatgrandchildren two sisters, Petra and Guadalupe Ybarra a brother, Santos Ybarra and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011 with the recitation of the holy rosary service scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Thomas Catholic Mission, 155 E. Jefferson St. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hernandezs sons: Enrique, Jesus, Joel, Melquiades, and Robert along with her grandson, Derik are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved mother and grandmother.
