Maria L. Ruiz

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Maria Luisa Ruiz entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, the 15th of January 2025 in the comfort of her Olmito residence surrounded by her daughter and family after a brave battle with cancer. She was 74 years of age.

Maria was born on September 20, 1950 in Brownsville, Texas, daughter of the late Juan Manuel Jasso and Elida Jasso. She graduated from Brownsville High School and went on to work in restaurant and retail. A devout Catholic, Maria was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brownsville.

Preceding Maria in death were her parents, Juan Manuel Jasso and Elida Jasso; her brother, Juan M. Jasso; and her grandmother, Francisca Garza.

Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Ruiz-Balraj; her grandson, Joseph K. Balraj; her great-granddaughter, Sabrina Elida Balraj-Olives; her siblings Jose Carlos Jasso, Anita Montiel, Irene Quintanilla, and Christina Jasso; and her beloved cat, Missy.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 28th of January 2025 between the hours of six o'clock in the evening and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 29th of January 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville. 

Honored to serve as her pallbearers will be Dharmen K. Balraj, Joseph K. Balraj, Justin Martinez, Gilbert Montiel, Oscar Montiel, and Jake Jasso.
