Maria Guadalupe Lupita Salinas, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009, after a long illness. Born in Soto la Marina, Tamaulipas, Mexico, she was a resident of Brownsville for over 50 years and a U.S. citizen. She worked for many years at Mercy Hospital now Valley Baptist Hospital in Brownsville. She celebrated her 88th birthday in McAllen last November 27Thanksgiving Day with her favorite great-great-grandnephew, Major Jose Elias Martinez, currently serving a 3rd term in Iraq, and her niece, Viviana Tamez and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo Salinas and Guadalupe Quintana de Salinas, and sisters, Edolina Salinas and Alejandra Salinas. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Jimenez and Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, and in Brownsville, Texas, including Alfonso Salinas and his children, Maria Cisneros, Mario Alfonso Salinas, Mireya Garza, Gloricela Garcia, Hugo D. Salinas and Javier Salinas; Ernestina Quintana Loya, Agustin Alcala, Donaciana Alcala, Magdalena Alcala, and Guadalupe Lupito Quintana, all from Brownsville, and cousins, Minerva Alcala Longoria from Fort Worth, Delia Alcala Garza from San Antonio and Olga Alcala Martinez from McAllen.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 23, 2009 from 10a.m. until 9p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7p.m., in the Chapel of Darling-Mouser. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10a.m., on Tuesday, March 24, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow to Buena Vista Burial Park.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to her provider, Juanita Cortinas for her continuous care.
