Maria "Mary" Flores Garcia 92, was granted her angel wings on September 19, 2017. Her final days were spent surrounded by family that she had touched in some small way throughout her long and blessed life. She was married for 49 years to Victor H. Garcia+, who passed away in 1994. We thank our Lord for the wonderful years He allowed Mary to be with us.
As the family matriarch, Mary was always the cornerstone at gatherings and special events. Her contagious smile and selfless spirit would always make any room glow.
Mary dedicated her life serving her community for fifty years as a health care professional at Brownsville Community Health Center. Treasured by many as a guiding light, she inspired family and friends to pursue careers in medicine. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and Cryptoquip's.
Mary was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends, but by all those fortunate to have known her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Flores and Emilia D. Flores; her husband, Victor H. Garcia and her daughters, Norma E. Garcia and Molly Barron.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Emilia G. Dale, Lydia G. Liendo, Josie H. (Joe) Hinojosa, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzy" (Marty) Peña, and her grandson, Victor J. "VJ" Barron who she raised as a son; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mary will also be missed by her sisters, Carolina Hernandez, Ana Isabel Durrance and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
