BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Sylvia Mendoza was taken up to heaven to be with our Lord on Thursday, the 24th of August 2023 at the age of seventy-six. She passed away at home with her family at her side after battling an illness for a short time.
Sylvia was employed by the Brownsville Independent School District for twenty-two years working as a Library Aide. She worked at several schools and loved every minute of it. She enjoyed working with the children. The last few years she worked at the ISS program working with troubled children and helping them to improve their behavior.
She was a devout Christian and always placed her love for God first. We know that God is pleased to have one of His kind and generous angels back in His arms, where she belongs. There was not a day that went by that she did not read a passage from the bible. Her favorite quote was Psalm 91.
Preceding Sylvia in death were her parents, Raul Tamez and Otilia Martinez Tamez.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, Juan Mendoza; her children Rose (Joe), John (Christina), Marcela (Ricardo), and Kristine (Danny); her six grandchildren Tiarra, Illiana, Joseph, Anita, Madison, and Kristian; her four great-grandchildren Emery, Jozlynn, Michael, and Juliana; in addition to her four brothers, three sisters, and several nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 29th of August 2023 between the hours of twelve noon and eight o’clock at night, with a service to begin at six o’clock in the evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at a quarter past two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 31st of August 2023 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers will be John Mendoza, Joseph Mendoza, Gilbert Mendoza, Mark Mendoza, Michael Mendoza, and Kristian Tamez. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Mendoza and Kristian Delgado.
In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, the family requests donations to her favorite charitable organization, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or to a favorite charitable organization of your choice.
