Maria Mercedes Gonzalez

Maria Colunga Gonzalez, 97, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday morning October 20, 2010 in San Antonio, TX .

Maria was a God fearing, devoted woman always helping her family and others. She has been joyfully reunited with her Parents: Mr. Jose Colunga Sr. and Mrs. Maria Fortaine Colunga her brothers: Jose Jr., Roberto, Luis S., Emilio, and Francisco her sisters: Margarita, Guadalupe, and Encarnacion, all members of one of Brownsvilles pioneer families: The Colungas.

Surviving our faithfully departed loved one are her daughters: Maria Elena Gonzalez Jeffries and her husband Murphy Sr., and Olga Gonzalez Rivera and her husband Homero her grandsons: Richard, Murphy Jr, Kurt and wife Sona, Omar, Mark, and Daniel greatgrandchildren: Jesse, Darienne, Jordan, Christian T., Joshua, Destiny, Judah, and Siah. She is also survived by her cousin Catarina Sanchez and family and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria Colunga Gonzalez will be dearly missed by all her family. She brought light to the lives of her children and instilled rich values in her grandchildren. All who knew her know she was a woman who helped those in need. We believe God welcomed her with open arms to the Kingdom of heaven to live for all eternity.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, October 22nd with the recitation of the holy Rosary at 7:00 pm in the East Chapel at Darling Mouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, with burial immediately following at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Marias grandsons: Richard Jeffries, Murphy Jeffries, Jr., Kurt Jeffries, Omar Rivera, Mark Rivera, and her nephew, Jack Penland are honored to be serving as her pallbearers.
