Maria DAlba Moreno, 89, our beloved mother and grandmother, and a resident at Golden Palms died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Golden Palms Retirement Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Maria was born in Italy and came to the U.S. as a war bride in 1946 after her marriage to Mr. Guadalupe Moreno.
Maria, a strong believer in Education, was a graduate of the University of Naples, Italy with a degree in Philosophy and Pedagogy. She lived with her husband and children in Houston and later in Brownsville. She continued her studies working towards a teacher certificate in elementary and secondary grades. Maria attended Texas A I in Kingsville, Texas, and in 1966 she received a Masters Degree in History. Maria was a dedicated teacher and touched the lives of countless students throughout her thirty year career with the BISD where she was involved in many school activities.
Maria was also active in her church work teaching Sunday School at St. Paul Methodist Church and as a Communion Stewardess. Later she was a member and deacon of Faith Presbyterian Church. Maria was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all her family and those fortunate to have known her.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Guadalupe Moreno her parents, Maria and Francesco DAlba three sisters, Giovanna Maggi, Dr. Antonietta DiLeonardo, and Franca Belloti and a brother, Dr. Antonio DAlba.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Ted Moreno and his wife Donna, Frances Moreno Randle, and Arlene M. Stelzer and her husband Robert her grandchildren, Christopher Moreno and his wife Leigh and Dori Korn and her husband Corey five greatgrandchildren: Mia Smith, Peter Smith, Tennyson Moreno, Mitch Moreno, and Max Moreno and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members in Italy.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Service Celebrating Marias Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Christopher Moreno, Dori Korn, Robert Louis Stelzer, Robert Richard Stelzer, Heidi Stelzer, and Elia Benavides are honored to be serving as Marias pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Marias name may be made to the American Red Cross, South Texas Chapter, 6914 West Expressway 83, Harlingen, Texas 78551 or to the donors favorite charity.
