BROWNSVILLE - Maria Hilaria Rios, age 81, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Maria was born in Durango, Mexico to Candelario Ruiz & Antonia Ruiz Salazar on October 28, 1934.
A long time Brownsville resident, Maria worked at Mercy Hospital and the Cameron County Health Department before dedicating over 25 years of service to the children of Russell Elementary (BISD). She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic Church; "Lala" was involved in the PAGA Ladies Auxiliary Club and the Mr. And Mrs. Association.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ruben Rios, and her siblings, Santos Ruiz, Juan Ruiz, and Felipa Espinoza.
Survivors include her loving children Ana (Richard) Martinez and Ricardo Rios, her beloved grandchildren, Ricardo Samuel Rios and Andrea Carolina Martinez, her sister-in-law, Luz Ruiz, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis St., Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
