Hortencia de la Rosa, 88, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Hortencia, a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, was the daughter of Vicente C. and Cira Maurilia Martinez. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants. A devout Catholic, Hortencia served the church with her involvement in many of its organizations. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family parish and traveled to Mexico City with other Eucharistic Ministers on a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joaquin L. de la Rosa; and her sisters: Otila Raul Tamez and Ursula Pedro Hermosa.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her children: Hilda Joe Perez, Bertha Morgan, Hortencia Cookie Jesus Gamez, Mary Ann Gabriel Flores, Norma Nenque, and Ricardo Ricky de la Rosa; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009 with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Friday evening in the West Chapel at Darling-Mouser. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Ave. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Hortencias grandsons: Robert Perez, Joaquin Jack Gomez, Juan Jose Gomez Jr., Andres Nenque, Alejandro Nenque, and Gabriel Flores Jr. together with her godson, Juan Urutia are honored to be serving as her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe P. Perez Jr., Gabriel Flores Sr., Don Jay Morgan, and Richard Salinas Sr.
Hortencias family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful and compassionate care given to their mother to Juanita de la Fuente and Lupita Santos, her constant caregivers; her physicians, Dr. Paul Lenz, Dr. Jaime Silva, and Dr. Jose Henao; and to Jeff Wilson and Kathy Redfern with Greater Valley Hospice Alliance. For all you did for our beloved mother we will remain eternally grateful.
In lieu of flowers, Hortencias family is requesting that memorial gifts in her name be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761.
