Maria Isabel Schoenmakers, 87, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, July 15, 2016, at her residence in Brownsville, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.
"Chavelita", as she was affectionately known to all, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave her all to family. Chavelita was a beautiful person inside and out. A devout Catholic, she was a long time active parishioner at Joseph's Catholic Church; and a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Bishop Adolp Marx Court. Chavelita was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Chavelita was preceded in death by her husband, Jan C. Schoenmakers; her parents, Julia and Santiago De Luna; a sister, Dora Martinez, and a brother, James De Luna.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Mary Elizabeth (Ernie) Garcia, John C. (Sharon) Schoenmakers, Dorothy (Stan) Ripka, James (Rosario) Schoenmakers, Robert (Dahlia) Schoenmakers, and Julie (Gary) Treviño. Chavelita will also be missed by the grandchildren who adored her: Rebecca, Cathi, Jan, and Julie Marie Garcia; John, Sean, and Scott Schoenmakers; Frank Otsuki; Mark and Kevin Van Dokkumbarg; James Schoenmakers II, Michael Villa, Elizabeth Cortez, and Theresa Richardson; Robert, Vincent, Valerie, Roberta, and Giselle Schoenmakers; and Joey and Cristina Treviño; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis St., Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Chavelita's grandsons: Jan Garcia, Sean Schoenmakers, Frank Otsuki, James Schoenmakers, Robert Schoenmakers, and Joey Treviño are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandmother. Chavelita's sons-in-law, Ernest Garcia, Gary Treviño, and Stan Ripka will serve as honorary pallbearers.
