Maria Isabel Vasquez, 58, of Brownsville, Texas passed away at Valley Regional Medical Center on Monday, June 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Maria I., as she was known to all, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. She touched the lives of countless of our community's youth as a teacher's assistant with BISD for 25 years. Maria I. was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
Maria I. loved watching all sports especially volleyball but her true passion was cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. She was a firm believer in education and always told all those she came in contact with, "Learn Survival Skills." Maria I. was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Maria I. is preceded in death by her parents: Juanita Q. and Faustino R. Vasquez and a brother, Juan Martin Vasquez.
Maria I. is survived by her son, Domingo (Karan) Gomez III; a grandson, Domingo Orion Gomez IV; her siblings: Valentino Q. (Miralee) Vasquez, Faustino Q. (Gloria) Vasquez Jr., Jose Leonardo Q. (Lidia) Vasquez, Maria Juana Vasquez, Francisco Q. (Tere) Vasquez, Ana Maria (Juan) Hernandez, Jose Angel Q. Vasquez, Mary Eva (Gonzalo+) Saldivar, Jesus Antonio Q. Vasquez, Angelina V. (Mark) Galvan, and Maria Guadalupe (Pete) Torres. Maria I. will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Irma Z. Vasquez along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 7th with a Funeral Liturgical Service scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 1055 Military Highway. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Domingo Gomez III, Juan Hernandez, Juan Hernandez Jr., Jesus Q. Vasquez, David A. Vasquez Jr., and Arthur Garcia Jr. are honored to be serving as pallbearers for Maria I.
In honor of Maria I's passion for the Dallas Cowboys, we ask that you wear your favorite Dallas Cowboys t-shirt or jersey for her services.
