Maria Agripina Ward, 92, our beloved mother, motherinlaw, grandmother, greatgrandmother, aunt, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Agripina was born in Cd. Victoria, Tamps., Mexico, and came to Brownsville as a young child. While she was attending Texas AI University in Kingsville, she met the love of her life, Douglas Ward. They married and eventually settled in Brownsville, where they lived and raised their family. Both Douglas and Agripina touched the lives of many in our community. Douglas served as a police officer with the Brownsville Police Dept., retiring in 1983, as a Captain. Agripina touched the lives of many in our community as an elementary teacher with the BISD. She retired in 1983 after 35 years of dedicated service to the BISD.
Agripina was a devout Catholic who prayed with her family daily.
Agripina was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known her.
Agripina is preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Douglas Ward a son, Douglas Ward Jr. a grandson, Michael Rosillo three sisters: Carmen Solis, Guadalupe Cisneros, and Esperanza Bettenhauser and a brother, Julio Osorio.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Virginia F.X. Rosillo, John Virginia Ward, Robert Mattie Ward, Harry Jackie Ward, and Christine Edwin Basse, a daughterinlaw, Elvia Douglas Jr. Ward nineteen grandchildren, twentyseven greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary in Spanish at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Visitation will resume at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2014 with the recitation of the holy rosary in English at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Cecilias Catholic Church, 606 West Ocean Blvd., in Los Fresnos, Texas. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Agripinas sons, Harry and John Ward, together with her grandsons: Eric Rosillo, Douglas Ward III, Michael Curtis, and Tom Ward are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved mother and grandmother. Robert Ward will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
