BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria Antonia Gracia Gutierrez entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 27th of February 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family. She was ninety-two years of age.
Maria was born in Brownsville, Texas on June 13, 1930, daughter of the late Manuel Gracia and Dolores Galvan Gracia. A devout Catholic, Maria was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the construction of the new Christ the King Catholic Church in the Southmost area. Despite her health issues, she often prayed the rosary and kept the faith. She was a fighter. Maria enjoyed being a jokester, though she was straightforward for the most part. It was black and white with her and there was no such thing as any gray areas. You never had to guess how she felt about things. She will be greatly missed.
Preceding Maria in death were her parents, Manuel Gracia and Dolores Galvan Gracia; and her brother, Roman Angel Gracia (Lydia).
Survivors include her loving daughter, Diana Dolores Artiaga (Jesus Rafael); her grandchildren Darrel Roy Artiaga (Galla), Jesus Rafael Artiaga, Jr. (Sophia Lipfert), Darren Robert Artiaga, and Adriana Dolores Schaff (Josh); and her great-grandchildren Darrel Nicholas Artiaga, Maya Acuzena Artiaga, and one on the way.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 2nd of March 2023 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home Stateroom.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 3rd of March 2023 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
