HARLINGEN, TX. - Maria del Rosario “Rose” Guevara Ybarra, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 26th of March 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. She was eighty-one years of age.
Rose was born in Brownsville, Texas on July 31, 1940, daughter of Mauro and Margarita M. Guevara. She was a devout Catholic who loved God and her family. Rose served for many years as a guitar player and director of the Spanish choir at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Her love of God was followed closely by her love and devotion to her husband Frank, whom she loved since childhood. She remained faithful to him for the rest of her life and they were happily married for forty-three years. Rose loved her children, grandchildren, and her great-granddaughter. Her hobbies included crocheting, dog-sitting and watching the news. She also loved to cook to show her love for her family and guests.
Preceding Rose in death were her parents, Mauro and Margarita Guevara; her brother, Ireneo “Neo” M. Guevara; her husband, Francisco “Frank” N. Ybarra; and her granddaughter, Selena B. Ybarra.
Rose is survived by her sons, Samuel Ybarra (Sharon) of Weisbaden, Germany and Rene Ybarra (Lisa), of San Antonio, Texas; her daughter, Breanna S. Ybarra of Denver, Colorado.; her grandchildren Maritza Gonzalez (Brian), Miguel F. Ybarra, and Jose M. Ybarra; her great-granddaughter, Anastasia E. Gonzalez; sister, Teresita M. Guevara of Brownsville, Texas; and her brother, Fr. Alfonso Guevara of Brownsville, Texas.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 31st of March 2022 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 1st of April 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis Street, Brownsville. Father Alfonso Guevara will celebrate the Mass. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
