BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria Dorotea García Ramos entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 2nd of March 2023 at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her loving children. She was eighty-three years of age.
Maria was born in Matamoros, Mexico on February 6, 1940, daughter of Flora Evarista Ramos and Adolfo Garcia. She was the youngest of four siblings. During her childhood, Maria grew up with her four brothers and they were always moving around. As a young girl, she loved to dance and socialize with others. As a teenager, she became a mother to her first child Sara Manuela Anderson. The rest of her children came one after another. She worked in housekeeping at Holiday Inn, as a migrant worker in different states, and as a provider. During this time, Maria raised her children, paid the bills, and was a hardworking mother. On several occasions, she would work three jobs and maintain the household. She dedicated her free time to playing with her beautiful children. Some of her favorite games included marbles, Loteria, Sorry, Trouble, and numerous others.
She bore the responsibility of a grandmother when her first grandchild was born. As her family kept growing, Maria decided to purchase a home and property in 1979. The family all moved from the downtown city area of Palm Boulevard, 1st and Monroe, to the rural outskirts of the city. This was quite an adjustment for all of her children.
She was the mother and father to all of her children and raised them to be very independent. She continued to work until her body would no longer allow it. Afterwards, she spent her life visiting her children and traveling with her daughter Rosa to other states, Mexico, and Canada.
Our mother loved all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren unconditionally. May she rest in peace until the next time we meet at the end of our life’s journey.
Preceding Maria in death were her children Domingo Martinez, Jr., Adriana Natividad Gonzalez (Gil), Jose Manuel Martinez (Eudocia) and Gracie Martinez Saaverdra (Antonio); her parents, Adolfo García and Flora Evarista Ramos; and her brothers, Juan Hilario García and Florentino García.
Survivors include her children Sara Anderson, Maria De Los Angeles García, Juan Alberto Martinez (Elvia +), Rosa Imelda García (Juan Ramirez), Maria Elena Martinez, Edward Martinez (Patricia), Joseph Martinez (Rosie), Angelica Maria Sambrano (Jorge), Glenda C. García (Josue), Kelly Connor, and Angeliea C. Gallardo (Marco Antonio); in addition to her one hundred and fifty grandchildren, one hundred and fifty-three great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
