Mariano Marín De La Garza

Mariano Marín de la Garza entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, September 9, 2018 in Brownsville, Texas.

Mariano was born in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas on December 7, 1923 to Mariano B. Marín and Maria Luisa de la Garza de Marín. After graduating from the Instituto Laurens in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mariano graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Engineering.

After graduation, he returned to Matamoros, Tamaulipas where he established a pre-mixed concrete plant, which was one of the first in northern Mexico. He was involved in the construction of numerous private and public sector projects in the region and served in leadership roles in several civic and business organizations, including the Matamoros Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club, among others.

After selling his concrete business, Mariano entered the banking industry and later became a stock broker. He retired early in life and selflessly devoted his time and attention to his wife and family.

Mariano was very athletic. He loved to play basketball and baseball and was a big sports fan, especially of his beloved Boston Celtics. At the Instituto Laurens, he taught himself to bat left handed because the right field wall was closer to home plate. He enjoyed playing basketball in the municipal league in Matamoros and was often seen riding his silver Harley motorcycle wearing his basketball warmers on his way to the basketball gym.

é'año, as he was known to his grandchildren, was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Maria Teresa Garza de Marín, of Monterrey, Nuevo León, whom he married on May 21, 1954; their two children, Marisa Richetta (husband, Romano Richetta) of Connecticut and Carlos Marín (wife, Elena Marín) of Brownsville; five grandchildren, Marisa Cristina Richetta, Alessandra Roxburgh (husband, Ross Roxburgh), Giuliana Richetta, Tomas Marín, and Rebecca Marín Shepherd (husband, Clay Shepherd). He is also survived by one brother, Hiram Omar Marín, whom he loved as his own son, of Houston, Texas and numerous extended family members including his nephews Rubén Marín, Fernando Marín, Eric Marín, and Hiram Marín, and his nieces, Yvette Marín and Laura Marín.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Darling Mouser Funeral Home, located at 945 Palm Blvd Brownsville, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm and a Rosary from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
