Marian Y. Herfindahl

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Marian Y. Herfindahl, 82, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Ross, North Dakota, died on Sunday, the 6th of February 2022 at Spanish Meadows of Brownsville.

Marian was born in Ross, North Dakota on June 27, 1939 to Sada and Charlie Juma, Sr., the youngest child of their four children. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in Ross, North Dakota Class of 1957. Marian then went on to attend Minot Business College from 1957 to 1959. She soon met a gentleman named Ronald T. Herfindahl and shared quite a bit in common; they were born in the same month and year within the same county and their birth certificates are a mere eight numbers apart. Marian and Ronald married on August 11, 1961. Their first daughter Dawn was born in 1963 and their second daughter Natalie was born in 1966.

Throughout her lifetime, Marian worked at the Mountrail County Attorney’s Office, Stanley Clinic, American State Bank, and First Interstate Bank. She was also an avid member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ross, North Dakota. Marian and Ronald were blessed with their first grandson, Seth Tomas Evenson, on August 11, 1997.

Marian retired from First Interstate Bank in Casper, Wyoming as a Home Loan Servicing Payoff Representative in December 31, 1999. Ronnie and Marian then moved back to North Dakota, spending their time between North Dakota and their winter home at River Bend Resort in Brownsville, Texas. During retirement they enjoyed their time in North Dakota and Texas and traveling to various locations.

Marian was a very lucky person. Whenever she put her name in a drawing, she won! She was always up for an adventure. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, shopping, gambling, cooking and baking, always trying out new recipes. Marian loved to dance with her life partner, Ronnie. Christmas was her favorite holiday, which she made magical and special for her girls and her grandson. Marian also enjoyed helping others and she never shied away from volunteering her family. In the summers, Marian would make quilts with the American Lutheran Ladies for people all over the world. She would also donate paint and rolled up her sleeves for Paint Your Heart Out, a volunteer team that paints houses of those in need, and would participate in building houses for Habitat for Humanity. When her husband worked out of town, she spent her time at the movie theaters, learning how to paint porcelain dolls, and would attend different arts and crafts classes. Marian will be always be remembered for her infectious laugh and caring personality.

Survivors include her loving husband Ronald T. Herfindahl of Brownsville, Texas; daughters, Dawn Evenson and her husband Kelly of Stanley, North Dakota and Natalie Herfindahl and her husband Bobby Torres of Brownsville, Texas; grandson, Seth Tomas Evenson of Stanley, North Dakota; brother, Charles Juma, Jr., of Minot, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Anna Mae and her husband and Cal Wamre of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Vernon Herfindahl and his wife Jan of Tioga, North Dakota; and sister-in-law, Sandra Shepherd and her husband Richard of Port Orchard, Washington.
