BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Marilyn A. Castillo, age 89, passed away at her daughter's home with both of her daughters by her side on Tuesday, the 8th of March 2022. She was born on November 13, 1932 in Goshen, Indiana. She graduated from Goshen College in Indiana with a Bachelor’s Degree and from Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas with a Master’s Degree.
Marilyn married Fernando Castillo in Mexico City on the 13th of December 1958. She was a teacher by profession for over fifty years having taught primary school in Mexico City, high school for many years with the Brownsville Independent School District, and Adult Education at The University of Texas at Brownsville campus, formerly Texas Southmost College.
She was a member of the women's organization Pan American Round Table of Brownsville for numerous years. She also sang with the Brownsville Community Chorus. Marilyn enjoyed music, movies and loved animals and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Eileen Baker; her spouse, Fernando Castillo; her sister, Diane Brougham; and her great-grandson, Collin Castillo.
Marilyn is survived by her children Mario Castillo of Houston, Lisa (Jimmy) Bryan of Beaumont, and Lana Castillo of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Allison Castillo; four great-grandchildren Griffin Castillo, Maddison Ramirez, Ryann Ramirez, and Morggan Ramirez; sister, Anita (Leon) Hutson of Nacogdoches; and brother, Don Baker of Irving.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 17th of March 2022, between the hours of six o’clock and eight o'clock at night within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, the 18th of March 2022 at half past eleven o’clock in the morning. Interment will then follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
