Marjorie Ann Martin Celaya

Marjorie Ann Martin Celaya, 85, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.

She was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 12, 1925, to Mini McBee Martin and David Springer Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frederick J. Celaya and her brother, William J. Martin. She is survived by a sister, Jean Brinkley of McAllen, TX two sistersinlaw, Katherine Celaya Reed of Brownsville, TX and Lucy Celaya of San Antonio, TX a brotherinlaw, Joe Celaya, Jr. of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, her daughter, Ann Celaya Jones A.C. Jones IV three grandchildren, Camille Jones Tassos Pete of San Antonio, W.W. Jones III Sarah of Hebbronville, and Christina Jones of Corpus Christi, TX three greatgrandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Celaya was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville for sixty two years. She was also very active in PEO an Educational Organization, Pan American Round Table and was a member of Sigma Alpha IotaInternational Music Fraternity.
She graduated from North Texas State University in 1947, with a degree in Music and Education. She moved to Brownsville that same year and began working for the Brownsville Independent School District teaching music in the elementary schools all over town. With this program she was able to teach many children to have a great appreciation for music. Later she taught 2nd grade for thirty seven years. She was also very involved with the Head Start and ESL programs. She was the kind of dedicated teacher that everyone hopes their child will have.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd., with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
