BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Martha Fuentes Garcia, 85, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Saturday, the 14th December 2024 at Las Alturas Nursing Home in Brownsville.
Martha was born on June 2, 1939 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, the eldest child of the late Arturo and Evangelina Fuentes.
She attended Villa Maria High School and graduated in 1958. She was employed at Brownsville Teachers Credit Union and the Brownsville Police Department, where she worked until she retired in 1993 when she married retired Police Captain Ruben S. Garcia, Sr.
Martha was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church for numerous years, where she served as Lector, CCD Teacher, and Eucharistic Minister. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Arturo and Evangelina Fuentes; her husband, Ruben S. Garcia, Sr.; a sister, Sylvia Fuentes de Azuela; two brothers, Arturo and Enrique Fuentes Gonzalez; and one niece, Marisol Fuentes Madrazo.
Left behind to treasure her memory are two sisters, Georgina (Jorge+) and Laura Fuentes Gonzalez; her sister-in-law, Maria Elena Madrazo Fuentes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha is also survived by her husband's children Ruben S. Garcia, Jr. (Nelly), Cristina Gonzalez (Mike) and Loraine G. Knoch and their respective families.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 17th of December 2024 between the hours of three o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 18th of December 2024 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
