Martiriano Tane G. Rodriguez, 96, of Brownsville, our beloved brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
Tane was born in Rio Hondo on March 12, 1913. He had been a resident of Brownsville for a number of years. He worked for the Brownsville Fire Department from 1942 to 1948 as a fireman and also as a tiller man. Tane was stationed at the Central Fire Station and at Station 6. After leaving the Fire Dept., he worked 23 years for the Cameron County Sheriff Dept. in their Jail Division. He served under several sheriffs as a jailer.
Tane, a devout Catholic, was a faithful parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church. He loved gardening and farming and was known as the Watermelon Man.
Tane was preceded in death and has now joined his beloved wife of 67 years, Josefina Salinas Rodriguez; three sons: Ignacio, Martiriano Jr., and Santos Rodriguez; 2 brothers, and 5 sisters.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory are his nine children: Juan Carol Rodriguez, Roberto M. Diane Rodriguez, Deacon Eleazar Larry Rodriguez, Rogelio Victoria Rodriguez, Enrique Rodriguez, Rosie Juan Martinez, Toni Reynaldo Lopez, Mary Lou Rodriguez, and Carlos Elvira Rodriguez; his brother, Juan G. Gregoria Rodriguez; 39 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Florence Barron; a Brother-in-law, Sabino Salinas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, December 20, 2009, and continue through 9:00 p.m. in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. His son, Deacon Larry, will be leading the rosary service at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. A Eucharistic Service of Christian Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009, at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Committal services will follow to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Tanes grandsons: Roger Rodriguez Jr., Carlos Rodriguez Jr., Enrique Rodriguez Jr., Eduardo Lopez, Rolando Rodriguez, and Leeroy Rodriguez are honored and proud to be serving as pallbearers for their grandfather. Honorary pallbearers will be Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. and the rest of Tanes grandsons.
