Mrs. Mary C. Hernandez, 78, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Valley Baptist Medical CenterBrownsville surrounded by her loving family.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Mary was a devoted wife and mother. Mary loved to bake and cook but her true passion was spending time in her garden. Mary was a true friend to many acting as their unofficial social worker and as a chauffeur to those who didnt or couldnt drive any more. Mary was also a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan. Mary was a dedicated and faithful employee for the BISD working as a teachers assistant for 25 years at Longoria Elementary. After her retirement, she still continued to touch the lives of many by working as a substitute teacher.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a founding member of Holy Family Parish where she was very active in numerous church organizations and also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Mary was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known her and been a part of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymundo Hernandez Jr. her mother, Irene Almaguer and a brother, Jorge Loera.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are the three sons that she was so proud of: Raymundo Ray Monica III, George Lucy, and Israel Riley Grace Hernandez and the eight grandchildren that were her pride and joy: Ray Austin, Christian Joel Ashley, Isla Marie, Rica Rae, Samantha Joy, Isaiah Caine, Emily Alice, and Ava Blair Hernandez and a host of friends.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Mrs. Hernandez will be taken to Holy Family Church where her family will begin to receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this evening at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2308 East Tyler Street. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Holy Family. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Marys sons, Raymond, George, and Riley along with her grandsons, Ray Austin, Christian, and Isaiah are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved mother and grandmother. Mike Diaz Sr. will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
