BROWNSVILLE, TX. - With great sorrow, the brothers of Ms. Mary Jane Manzano announce the passing of their sister. Ms. Manzano, 73, was born December 27, 1951 at Mercy Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. She died in Brownsville, Texas on September 19, 2024 of natural causes.
She was a devout Catholic having been guided by her mother and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Our sister can only be described as a devoted daughter and sister. She provided total dedication towards her pets and her love of all animals. A true lady. Mary was very intelligent and excelled in mathematics.
A proud American and staunch Republican, Mary Jane cherished the traditional values of God, family, and country.
Mary Jane was a lifetime resident of Brownsville. She graduated Class of 1970 from Brownsville High School. She went on to attend Pan American University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in education.
Mary Jane was an educator with the Brownsville Independent School District, where she taught algebra for forty years at Faulk Junior High. She was involved with various sponsorships of academic clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mariano and Maria C. M. Manzano; her brother, Theodore "Ted" Manzano; her grandparents, Eduardo and Julia R. Manzano and Juan D. and Paula G. Munoz; and by her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her brothers, Mariano Manzano, Jr. (Yvonne) of Edinburg, and Daniel O. Manzano of Austin; step-sister, Lorraine Castro; nephews, Mariano Manzano III of Dallas, Texas, Adam Manzano (Evelyn) of Edinburg, Texas, and Michael Castro of Brownsville; her great-niece, Meadow Manzano; her great-nephew, Anthony Jay Manzano; her numerous aunts and uncles; and by her beloved dogs, Mae and Chula, and her cats.
Visiting Hour with the family will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville, on Monday, the 23rd of September 2024 from twelve noon to one o’clock in the afternoon, with a recitation of the holy rosary to follow. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated thereafter at two o’clock in the afternoon. Following the mass, a reception will be held within the St. Mary's Parish Hall.
Honorary pallbearers are Mark Munoz, J. D. Munoz, Edward Munoz, Eddie Manzano, Mariano Manzano III, and Adam Manzano.
