Mary Jane Barrera

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Mary Jane Barrera entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 5th of December 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was eighty-nine years of age.

Mary Jane was born on November 28, 1933 in Las Yescas, Texas, daughter of George Napoleon Johnston and Maria Waver Johnston. Mary Jane married Guadalupe Barrera on November 29, 1949 and together they had eight children. She retired from Levi Strauss Co. after twenty-five years of service.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Guadalupe Barrera; her infant daughter, Gloria Ana Barrera; her son, Guadalupe J. “Chico” Barrera; and by her parents, George Napoleon Johnston and Maria Weaver Johnston.

Survivors include her children Leonel J. Barrera (Irma), George J. Barrera (San Juana Villa), Gloria Barrera (Jesus Zavala), Ruben Barrera, Belinda Tucker (Karsten), and Jaime J. Barrera (Crysta); her daughter-in-law, Estela Barrera; her sister, Olivia Marceaux; and her eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 9th of December 2022 between the hours of five o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

A Chapel Service will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 10th of December 2022. Interment will immediately follow, via an escorted procession, at Weaver Cemetery II in Los Indios, Texas.
