Maurine Adele Barnes Herman, 97, our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Maurine was born on the Rabb Plantation at Sabal Palms in Brownsville in 1915. She grew up in the area known at that time as El Jardin, where she attended school and graduated from El Jardin High School. Maurine was a member of the First Baptist Church where she and Glen raised their family. They later joined the First Presbyterian Church in Brownsville.
Maurines family and friends admired Maurine greatly as she was an exceptional role model that taught them how to be caring and positive. She never complained and she had a wonderful outlook on life. Maurine was a devoted wife and mother and to her family was first and foremost. Maurine was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known her.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Herman the owner of Glens Supermarket a grandson, Michael Herman her parents, Milton and Myrtle Barnes and a brother, Jim Barnes.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her daughter, Mary Myrtle and her husband Robert Jackson of Williamsburg, Virginia her son, Elwyn and his wife Marna Peggy Herman of Brownsville her grandchildren: Carol Joy and her husband Larry Stephens of Lockhart, TX, Deborah and her husband Todd Schippers of Monroe, Iowa, Tom Jackson and his wife Lynice of Savannah, GA, and Ron Jackson of Keller, TX ten greatgrandchildren nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Rev. Rita Aguilar will officiate the Celebration of Life Service scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 in the West Chapel. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Maurines grandchildren: Carol Joy Stephens, Deborah Schippers, and Tom and Ron Jackson, along with her good neighbors Rudy Olivares and Hilda and George Hinojosa are honored to be serving as her pallbearers. Maurines greatgrandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maurines name may be made to the charity of your choice.
